Aventura is one of the densest concentrations of luxury kitchen appliances in South Florida. That means a very specific appliance profile: European brands, integrated panel fronts, Thermador dishwashers running inside cabinetry that was custom-built around them. Thermador Star-Sapphire and Topaz — Built Different
Thermador's residential dishwasher line splits into two tiers. The Star-Sapphire (DWHD series) sits at the top — 44 dBA, flexible third rack, full touch control. The Topaz line runs quieter at 42 dBA and adds the Sapphire Glow: a blue ambient light that runs along the door base during the cycle. It's the visual proof a cycle is running, useful in open-plan kitchens where sound tells you nothing.
Both share a design decision that confuses a lot of homeowners and a lot of non-specialist techs: there is no visible heating element at the bottom of the tub. Thermador uses a concealed condensation drying system — the element is hidden inside the door or behind the tub wall depending on the model. That's intentional. It protects dishes from direct radiant heat and extends rack life.
But it also means drying complaints are almost never what they appear to be.
The Failure Pattern We See Most in Aventura
In Aventura specifically, the most common Thermador dishwasher call follows the same arc:
The complaint: dishes aren't drying — especially plastics. Sometimes a "check water supply" error on the panel.
The actual cause: a combination of two issues that feed each other.
First — the condensation drying channel accumulates mineral buildup. Aventura is on Miami-Dade County municipal water, which runs moderately hard. Over 18–36 months of daily use, scale deposits narrow the internal vent path. The drying cycle weakens. Plastics come out wet. Homeowners assume the machine is aging out.
Second — the circulation pump impeller develops a partial obstruction. In high-rise units, the incoming water pressure is often at the high end of spec or slightly above. Over time, fine debris bypasses the filter and lodges in the impeller. The pump still runs. Noise stays low. But wash performance drops enough that the machine enters an error state and flags a water flow issue — even when water supply itself is fine.
The two problems together make the machine look sicker than it is. We've seen Thermador Star-Sapphires in Aventura that were days away from being replaced by owners who assumed they'd failed. Cleaning the condensation channel, descaling the vent path, and clearing the impeller brought both machines fully back.
What Makes Aventura Calls Different
High-rise installs add a layer. Most Thermador dishwashers here sit behind full-overlay custom panels. Accessing the control board or door latch assembly means removing the panel correctly — wrong sequence and you crack the frame or strip the mounting pins. We've repaired more than one machine where a previous tech forced the panel and cracked the hinge housing.

If the Sapphire Glow stops illuminating, the panel goes unresponsive, or the machine stops mid-cycle, those are control board symptoms — different job, still very repairable.
